Using Nature's Ebb and Flow to Your Advantage
Have you ever noticed that you’ll have a string of days where you are brimming with ideas and everything seems so clear? Or, you’ll experience several days in a row where you just feel unstoppable and knock things off your to do list with little effort? And then, lo and behold there are those dreaded days where it feels like your trudging through mud from morning until night?
Several years ago, I read an article about cyclical living. It was specifically discussing hormones, the female cycle, and energy levels. I was intrigued and fell down a rabbit hole that led me to the concept of red tents. Prior to patriarchal society, women would gather in a menstrual hut known as the Red Tent or Moon Lodge. Long ago and before artificial light sources, women’s cycles were generally synched with the moon. Women of a village or community would come together during the new moon (dark moon) to celebrate the intuitive, powerful time of their bleeding phase. During this time, they left behind the “doing” to embrace the “being”. Letting go of the to do lists and embracing the rest and spiritual nourishment. The rabbit hole then led me to lunar phases, which is how much of the moon we can see on any given day, and how that can impact our energy and emotions.
While as a woman, the idea of energy levels matching up with different levels of hormones each month made total sense – it just didn’t quite have the ‘aha’ feeling I was looking for. However, when I dived more deeply into lunar cycles, there it was – the magic.
How does the moon affect us? Our bodies are 60% water and the moon’s gravitational pull affects water. Look to the ocean tides for your proof. My curiosity brought me to additional research, and eventually experimentation to try harnessing the moon’s energy for increased clarity, productivity and intuition. I’ve continued with my ritual every month since!
As we release 2020’s energy (and release it we must, am I right?!?) and look to create a fulfilling 2021, I encourage you to come along on the journey this month. The new moon will start December 14, and I’ll be posting throughout this lunar cycle with information and reflections you can try for yourself. Stay tuned!
